Lots. Many general audio compression and (all?) freely redistributable
speech specific compression packages can be found on:
svr-ftp.eng.cam.ac.uk/comp.speech/sources
One new package is shn114.zip, which is a DOS port of shorten. This
gives lossless and ADPCM style compression. As it is designed for audio
it gives better lossless compression than general purpose packages (eg
gzip), and as it is designed for file compression it can give less
distortion than ADPCM algorithms which have to work at a fixed
compression ratio. As I said, the DOS port is new, and I appreciate
hearing about any problems with it.
